The best Spanish movies on Netflix to learn Spanish are ones with lots of everyday conversation. For Mexican Spanish, start with Solteras or Ahí te encargo, two comedies set in Mexico. For Spain, try 53 domingos. For Argentina, Hoy se arregla el mundo. All of them were on Netflix in the US when we checked.

Key Takeaways

  • Comedies and family stories are easier than thrillers, because people talk the way they do at home.
  • Match the accent to your life: Mexican movies for Mexico, Spain movies for Spain.
  • Watch with Spanish audio and Spanish subtitles, not English ones.
  • Rewatch one short scene and say the lines out loud. That turns a movie into speaking practice.
  • Movies are short, so they are a good way to try an accent before committing to a whole series.

All on Netflix in the US: checked on JustWatch for the US on October 25, 2026. Levels are our own suggestion.

The levels are our own suggestion, based on how fast people talk and how much slang each movie uses. No movie made for native speakers feels easy at first, and that is normal.

Knowing the rule is the easy part. Using it mid-conversation is where most adults freeze. In a free roadmap session, a coach hears you speak and gives you a plan for what to practice next.

Best Spanish movies on Netflix for Mexican Spanish

If you live in Mexico or travel there, start here. When the same slang keeps coming up, look it up. Our guide to Mexican expressions you hear every day covers words you will hear in almost every Mexican comedy.

1. Solteras (Ready to Mingle, 2019)

A romantic comedy about a woman who wants to get married so badly that she signs up for professional help to find a husband, and finds herself along the way. Lots of conversation between friends, which is the Spanish you want to copy. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

2. Ahí te encargo (You’ve Got This, 2020)

A comedy about a happy married couple. He wants to be a dad just as her career takes off, and then a baby ends up in their home. Everyday arguments and jokes in casual Mexican Spanish. The title itself is a very Mexican phrase. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

3. Dime cuándo tú (Tell Me When, 2020)

After his grandfather dies, a young man sets out to fulfill his last wish with some new friends, and falls for one of them. A light story with clear, friendly dialogue. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

4. La gran seducción (The Great Seduction, 2023)

The people of a forgotten fishing town try to trick their way into a big opportunity. A small-town comedy with lots of characters, so you hear many different Mexican voices. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

5. Lo mejor del mundo (The Dad Quest, 2025)

A father and son find out they may not be related and go on a road trip across Mexico to learn the truth. A comedy you can watch with older kids (rated PG-13). Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

6. Soy Frankelda (I Am Frankelda, 2025)

A stop-motion film about a young writer in 19th-century Mexico who comes face to face with the characters from her own spooky stories. Rated PG, so it works for the whole family, and animation is often easier to follow. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

7. Roma (Roma, 2018)

Alfonso Cuarón’s film about two domestic workers who help a mother of four in 1970s Mexico City. The pace is slow and the conversations are quiet and everyday. Suggested level: upper intermediate. Where to watch.

8. Noche de fuego (Noche de fuego, 2021)

Tatiana Huezo’s drama about three girls growing up in a town caught in violence. The children’s conversations are simple, but the story is heavy. Rated R. Suggested level: upper intermediate. Where to watch.

9. Ya no estoy aquí (I’m No Longer Here, 2020)

Set in Monterrey, where a group of teenagers spends their days dancing to slowed-down cumbia. After trouble with a local cartel, their leader has to leave for the US and misses home. Full of Monterrey street slang, so save it for later. Suggested level: advanced. Where to watch.

10. Pedro Páramo (Pedro Páramo, 2024)

Based on Juan Rulfo’s novel. A man goes looking for his father, Pedro Páramo, in a town haunted by its past. The language is literary and the story jumps in time, so watch it once you are comfortable. Suggested level: advanced. Where to watch.

Best Spanish movies on Netflix from Spain

11. 53 domingos (53 Sundays, 2026)

Three siblings meet to talk about their aging father’s future, and it turns into bickering and old grudges. It is almost all conversation, which is great for hearing how families in Spain really talk. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

12. 4 latas (4L, 2019)

Two old friends and a young woman drive across the Sahara, from Spain to Mali, to see a dying friend. A road movie with lots of chatting in the car. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

13. El hoyo (The Platform, 2019)

A thriller set in a vertical prison where food comes down on a platform and the people at the bottom starve. Short, tense dialogue. Rated R and violent. Suggested level: upper intermediate. Where to watch.

Best Spanish movies on Netflix from Argentina and Uruguay

14. La sociedad de la nieve (Society of the Snow, 2023)

J. A. Bayona’s film about the 1972 plane crash in the Andes that stranded a Uruguayan rugby team. It was made in Spain, but the characters are Uruguayan, so you hear the Río de la Plata accent and vos. Suggested level: upper intermediate. Where to watch.

15. Hoy se arregla el mundo (Today We Fix the World, 2022)

A TV producer finds out that his 9-year-old son is not his biological child, and the two go looking for the real father. Warm and funny, with Argentine Spanish. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

16. 27 noches (27 Nights, 2025)

A woman’s daughters have her admitted to a psychiatric clinic because of her carefree ways, and an expert has to decide if she is ill or just enjoying life. Lots of dialogue in Argentine Spanish. Suggested level: upper intermediate. Where to watch.

Best Spanish movies on Netflix from Colombia

17. El paseo 6 (The Trip 6, 2021)

A protective father and his mother-in-law crash his daughter’s school trip. Part of a long-running Colombian comedy series, with broad jokes that are easy to follow. Later sequels are on Netflix too. Suggested level: intermediate. Where to watch.

18. Los reyes del mundo (The Kings of the World, 2022)

Five boys who live on the streets of Medellín set out to find land that was promised to one of them. The street slang is fast and thick, so this one is for advanced learners. Suggested level: advanced. Where to watch.

How we picked these movies

  • Every movie was listed on Netflix in the US on JustWatch on October 25, 2026.
  • We favored movies with lots of everyday dialogue over action and spectacle.
  • Mexico comes first, because Mexican Spanish is what we coach. Then Spain, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia.
  • We left out movies that are mostly in English, even if they are set in Mexico.

How to learn Spanish with movies

  1. Watch the whole movie once with Spanish audio and Spanish subtitles. Just follow the story.
  2. Pick one scene of 5 to 10 minutes that you liked and watch it again.
  3. Pause after each line and say it out loud, copying the actor’s speed and tone.
  4. Write down 5 phrases you want to keep and use one of them that same day.
  5. Watch the scene a third time without subtitles and notice how much more you catch.

Movies give you hours of real Spanish, but the characters never talk back. If you understand a lot on screen and go quiet in real life, our 30-minute conversation sessions are where that changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Spanish movie on Netflix to learn Spanish?

For Mexican Spanish, Solteras is a good first pick. It is a romantic comedy, the dialogue is everyday conversation between friends, and it was on Netflix in the US when we checked. Ahí te encargo is a close second if you want a comedy about a couple.

Should I watch Spanish movies with English or Spanish subtitles?

Spanish subtitles. English subtitles let you follow the story while your brain skips the Spanish. Spanish subtitles connect the sound to the words, so you start to recognize phrases you already know on paper. Switch them off for short scenes once you can follow most of the dialogue.

Are there Mexican movies on Netflix for beginners?

No movie made for native speakers is truly beginner level, but some are easier than others. Animated films like Soy Frankelda and light comedies like Dime cuándo tú are good places to start. Watch one scene at a time with Spanish subtitles and pause often.

Can you learn Spanish just by watching movies?

Movies build your listening and give you real phrases, but speaking is a separate skill. You need to say the words out loud and use them in conversation. Pair movies with speaking practice, even just repeating lines after each scene.

How do I find Spanish movies on Netflix?

Search Netflix for a title from this list, or check it on JustWatch, which shows where a movie streams in your country. Availability changes from country to country and month to month, so a movie on this list may come and go.

“I visited Colombia back in 2023 and at the time I had pretty limited Spanish. I was able to order food, but I was stumbling through conversations. I returned in March [2026] and was able to have in depth conversations with our host, the owner of a restaurant, and someone who worked at a bookstore to name a few. It was night and day and it made a huge difference.”

Chris K., student since 2024

“Working with Hannah has dramatically improved my Spanish as well as my confidence in using Spanish in actual conversations.”
