How would you spend one week in Cancun? 🏝️

Back in January 2023, I led the first adventure immersion trip since the pandemic! We had an amazing week together in Cancun, exploring the local sites such as the famous Tulum ruins, adventuring in the jungle and swimming in the cenotes, relaxing at the beach, and having lots of tacos (+ learning how to make guacamole) and delicious food from the Yucatán peninsula!

One week in Cancun, Mexico

We got to explore the Yucatán Peninsula like a local with its beautiful beaches, cenotes, and Mayan sites, rode on the Captain Hook party boat, ziplined through the jungle, and had a lot of fun in between. Here are some of the highlights of our week in Cancun trip:

  • Tasted street food from tacos and tortas to tamales. Yummy!
  • Visited Playa Langosta with its beautiful white sand beach and turquoise Caribbean waters
  • Visited Tulum, explored the ruins and the famous Tulum viewpoint
  • Went swimming in the Mexican cenotes in the jungle (A cenote is a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater)
  • Tried cafe lechero in Cafe Nader, a local favorite in Cancun
  • Rode ATVs and went ziplining through the jungle, then cooled off in one of the cenotes
  • Rode on the Captain Hook party boat where we had dinner and enjoyed the pirate show
  • Visited the iconic Isla Mujeres island and beaches, and went on a snorkeling tour
  • Discovered the local side of Cancun, visited the markets and ate authentic Mexican food

Tips for traveling to Cancun

If you have one week in the Yucatan Peninsula, you can use Cancun as your base and travel from there. It’s super easy! You can either go on a tour (I highly recommend Carlos for some awesome tours; you can contact him on WhatsApp at +529982008767) or travel on your own. If you choose to explore by yourself, book tickets with Addo bus: they travel to different destinations in the Yucatan Peninsula and it’s easy to book your ticket online or at their bus stops.

From Cancun, you can go to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Holbox, Cozumel, Merida, etc. You won’t run out of ideas! Except for Merida, most destinations are 1-2 hours away from Cancun, perfect for day trips.
