The Speak Better Spanish podcast is ours, so we are telling you up front. We list it first for one reason: it is made for adults who want the Spanish people actually speak in Mexico. Everything we say about the other shows comes from their Apple Podcasts pages or official sites, checked on October 25, 2026.
Key Takeaways
- Choose by level first. A show that is too hard gets dropped in a week.
- Choose by accent second: Mexico, Spain, Colombia or a mix.
- Shows with transcripts help you catch words you miss.
- Listen to the same episode twice. The second time is where you learn.
- Say a few lines out loud after each episode so listening turns into speaking.

1. Speak Better Spanish podcast: best for real-life Mexican Spanish
This is our show, from the Speak Better Spanish team. Episodes are short and cover Mexican slang, everyday expressions, culture and listening practice. The latest episode when we checked was Episode 86, “Saber vs Conocer: Two Kinds of Knowing in Spanish.” Most episodes have a matching post on our blog, so you can read along.
Listen on Spotify or Amazon Music, or see the podcast page. It is not a beginner course. If you are starting from zero, begin with Coffee Break Spanish and come back to us later.
Best Spanish podcasts for beginners
Coffee Break Spanish
A structured course in podcast form from Coffee Break Languages, with five levels from beginner to advanced. Every level starts with a free podcast, and regular episodes run about 8 to 13 minutes. The full courses are a paid, one-time purchase.
Dreaming Spanish Podcast
Hosts Agustina and Shel chat in slow, easy Spanish, and the show describes itself as perfect for beginners. It is updated weekly, with episodes of about half an hour. Some listeners find it harder than that label suggests, so treat it as a stretch if you are brand new.
SpanishPod101
Very short lessons, most of them 2 to 3 minutes, updated weekly. Levels run from absolute beginner to lower intermediate, and one series is 3-Minute Mexican Spanish. There is a paid Premium plan with more material.
Real Spanish Conversations (Notes in Spanish)
Ben Curtis and Marina Diez, a bilingual couple based in Madrid, have been podcasting since 2005. Their current show has short episodes of about 4 to 7 minutes. Good if you want Spain Spanish.
Best Spanish podcasts for intermediate learners
Españolistos
Andrea, a Colombian Spanish teacher, and Nate, an American who speaks Spanish fluently, talk about everyday topics almost entirely in Spanish. Episodes run about 30 minutes, and transcripts are available on their site.
Charlas Hispanas
Short episodes of about 11 to 14 minutes with hosts from Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, so you hear several accents. Premium adds full transcripts and exercises, with a 7-day free trial.
Easy Spanish
From the Easy Languages team, with Pau in Mexico and Cami in Barcelona. Episodes run 21 to 28 minutes. The free podcast is the main show, and membership adds an interactive transcript and an aftershow.
Unlimited Spanish
Òscar Pellus uses a question-and-answer method that keeps you thinking in Spanish. Episodes run about 12 to 14 minutes, all in Spanish, and the site offers free transcripts for more than 450 episodes.
Spanish Obsessed
Rob, from England, and Lis, from Colombia, have separate feeds for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners. The intermediate episodes run 18 to 32 minutes. Some transcripts are free, and there is a paid transcript bundle.
Best Spanish podcasts for advanced learners
Hoy Hablamos
A daily podcast for learners, hosted by Roi Bolás, often with Paco. The main show is for intermediate to advanced learners, and there is a separate basic feed. Premium adds transcripts and exercises.
Radio Ambulante
Long-form stories from across Latin America, hosted by Daniel Alarcón, with episodes of 37 to 62 minutes. These are full stories told in Spanish, which makes it good advanced practice. Episode pages link English and Spanish transcripts, and Radio Ambulante partnered with Jiveworld (formerly Lupa) on an app for learners.
You may also see the Duolingo Spanish Podcast on older lists. Its last episode came out in February 2024, but the archive is still worth a listen at the intermediate level.
How to learn Spanish with podcasts
- Pick one show at your level and listen to the same episode twice.
- The first time, just follow the story. The second time, pause and replay what you missed.
- Read the transcript after the second listen, if the show has one.
- Pick three phrases and say them out loud. Use one in a sentence about your own life.
- Listen on walks, drives and chores. Our passive listening guide explains how.
Podcasts train your ear. If you can follow an episode but go blank in a real conversation, read why you understand Spanish but cannot speak it. For the slang you will hear most, see Mexican expressions you will actually hear every day. If native speakers still sound too fast, see what to do when you do not understand them.
When you are ready to answer back, a 30-minute conversation session gives you real speaking time with Hannah, Arturo or Jacky. See how conversation sessions work.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on your level and the accent you want. For real-life Mexican Spanish, try the Speak Better Spanish podcast, which is our own. Beginners do well with Coffee Break Spanish. Intermediate learners like Españolistos and Charlas Hispanas. Advanced learners can listen to Radio Ambulante.
Podcasts build listening and give you real phrases, but speaking is a separate skill. You need to say the words out loud and use them in conversation. Pair a podcast with speaking practice, even a few minutes of repeating lines after each episode.
Coffee Break Spanish is the classic choice, because it starts from zero and builds level by level. SpanishPod101 has very short lessons for absolute beginners. The Dreaming Spanish Podcast uses slow, easy Spanish, though some new learners find it a stretch at first.
The Speak Better Spanish podcast is built around real-life Mexican Spanish. Easy Spanish has a host in Mexico, Charlas Hispanas includes Mexican hosts, and SpanishPod101 has a 3-Minute Mexican Spanish series. Most other popular shows use Spain or Colombian Spanish.
Fifteen to thirty minutes a day is plenty for most adults. Listening to one episode twice teaches you more than listening to two new episodes once. Fit it into time you already have, like your commute or a walk.

Hannah, Arturo and Jacky. Coaching since 2014, based in Monterrey, Mexico.“Hannah assured me one day it will start to click but I was convinced I would never master the language. […] [Recently] I had a full conversation with a worker who was pointing and repairing my windows. He spoke no English and the boss was not on site. I understood almost everything this man was explaining about the work […] I felt so proud of myself! It clicked!”
Catherine, student since 2023“Working with Hannah has dramatically improved my Spanish as well as my confidence in using Spanish in actual conversations.”
