The best online Spanish classes for adults are small, live and built around speaking. Our pick is Speak Better Spanish (our own school), with small group conversation classes and one-to-one coaching in real Mexican Spanish. Lingoda is a good fit for a set curriculum by level, BaseLang for unlimited classes, and Live Lingua for low-cost group conversation.

Speak Better Spanish is ours, so we say so up front. We put it first because it is what we built for adults who understand Spanish but freeze when it is their turn to talk. For every other school on this list, we checked the facts on its own website on October 25, 2026. Prices and plans change, so check them again before you pay.

Key Takeaways

  • Pick the format first: a small live group, one-to-one, or a self-paced course.
  • Small groups only work if they stay small. Look for a stated maximum class size.
  • If speaking is your goal, choose live classes over video courses.
  • Match the accent to your life. Our coaches teach Mexican Spanish.
  • Use the free trial or free first session before you buy a plan.

1. Speak Better Spanish: best for adults who freeze when they speak

This is our school. Hannah, Arturo and Jacky coach adults on Zoom, and everything is built around one thing: you speaking Spanish in real life. You can join small group conversation classes with a maximum of 8 students and one topic per series, or work one to one in 60-minute coaching sessions or 30-minute Spanish-only conversation sessions.

Every class is recorded. With coaching you also get follow-up notes after each session and email support in between. The Spanish is real-life Mexican Spanish, the kind you hear in Mexico, not textbook Spanish. If you are not fully satisfied, you get a full refund within 28 days.

Our 30-minute conversation sessions are where you use what you learn. You talk in Spanish about your own life with Hannah, Arturo or Jacky, and you get the recording and your notes after. Many students alternate them with 60-minute coaching. See how conversation sessions work.

Pick something else if you want Spain Spanish, an exam course, or the lowest price per hour. Coaching costs more than a marketplace tutor. Current prices are on our pricing page.

2. Lingoda: best for a structured curriculum by level

Lingoda runs live 60-minute Spanish classes online, in small groups or one to one. Its Spanish curriculum follows the CEFR levels from A1 to B2, and Lingoda says all of its Spanish teachers are native speakers. Plans are sold as a number of classes that renews every four weeks, and prices showed in euros by default when we checked.

The 7-day free trial lets you try 3 group classes or 1 private class. It turns into a paid plan on day 8 unless you cancel, so put a reminder in your calendar.

3. BaseLang: best for unlimited speaking time

BaseLang sells one-to-one Spanish classes on Zoom for a flat monthly price. Real World is $179 a month for unlimited classes. Real World Lite is $99 a month for one 30-minute class a day. The first week costs $1, and BaseLang offers a full refund within the first 35 days.

Its teachers come from seven Latin American countries, and its FAQ says it has no teachers from Spain. There is a ten-level program and DELE exam prep. You book classes 24 hours a day, up to five days ahead. It suits people with time to take a class most days.

4. Live Lingua: best for budget group conversation

Live Lingua offers group conversation classes with no more than 6 students. The group plan was listed at $77 a month, with lower monthly rates on 3-month and 12-month plans, and you can try 1 week free. It also offers one-to-one lessons from $22 an hour, with a free 30-minute trial and no credit card required.

5. Spanish Academy: best for learning with a partner

Spanish Academy (also known as Homeschool Spanish Academy) has an adult program with individual or paired 50-minute classes. Paired classes cost less per student, which works well for couples or friends learning together. Class times are listed in Central America time. You can start with a free trial, no credit card required.

6. italki: best for choosing your own teacher

italki is a marketplace. You pick a teacher, either a professional teacher or a community tutor, and book lessons pay as you go. Its Spanish page says lessons cost between $4 and $60 an hour, and you can take up to three discounted trial lessons, one per teacher. Some teachers also run group classes.

Quality depends on the teacher you choose, so plan to try a few. Our guide to Spanish tutor vs Spanish coach explains what to look for.

7. Coursera (UC Davis Learn Spanish): best self-paced option

If you cannot commit to a class schedule, UC Davis’s Learn Spanish series on Coursera is a beginner-level, self-paced course. Coursera estimates about two months at 10 hours a week, and it is included with Coursera Plus. It will give you structure and grammar, but it will not give you a live person to talk to.

How we picked these classes

  • Live speaking time with a real teacher counted most, because that is what adults say they are missing.
  • We looked for a stated class size, a clear trial and a clear way to leave.
  • We only used facts we could see on each school’s own site on October 25, 2026. We did not give star ratings.
  • We left out schools whose prices or class details we could not confirm that day.

Group classes or one-to-one: which should you choose?

Group classes cost less and give you other voices to listen to, which helps when real conversations move fast. One-to-one gives you every minute of speaking time and lets the session follow your goals. Many of our students do both. Read how small group conversation classes work and how many Spanish classes it takes to plan your first few months.

If you understand a lot but go blank when someone talks to you, start with why you freeze when speaking Spanish. It explains what to practice first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best online Spanish class for adults?

For adults who want to speak, the best class is small, live and built around conversation. We recommend Speak Better Spanish, our own school, for real Mexican Spanish with groups of up to 8. Lingoda suits a set curriculum by level, and BaseLang suits unlimited one-to-one classes.

Are online Spanish classes as good as in-person classes?

For speaking practice, yes, if the class is live and small. On Zoom you still talk with a real teacher and other students, and you can often get a recording to review. Self-paced video courses are different. They teach grammar and words but give you no one to talk to.

How much do online Spanish classes cost?

It depends on the format. Marketplaces like italki list teachers from about $4 to $60 an hour. BaseLang charges a flat monthly fee for unlimited classes. Group classes usually cost less per hour than one-to-one. Check each school’s own pricing page, because plans and prices change.

Can you learn Spanish online as a complete beginner?

Yes. Start with a class that has a clear level system or a teacher who adapts to you, and add a self-paced course for grammar. The important part is speaking early, even with simple sentences, so the language does not stay stuck on paper.

How many online Spanish classes a week should I take?

Two or three a week is a good pace for most working adults. One class to learn, one to practice and some short listening in between works better than one long class. Consistency matters more than the total hours in any single week.

Pick one and book your first class this week

The best class is the one you will keep showing up to. Choose your format, use the trial, and give it a month before you judge it.

SPANISH FLUENCY COACHING

Reading about Spanish is the easy part. Speaking it is where we come in.

Most adults who find this page already know a lot of Spanish and still freeze in real conversations. A coach works on that freeze directly: what stops you, what you need to say, and real practice until it comes out on its own.

“I visited Colombia back in 2023 and at the time I had pretty limited Spanish. I was able to order food, but I was stumbling through conversations. I returned in March [2026] and was able to have in depth conversations with our host, the owner of a restaurant, and someone who worked at a bookstore to name a few. It was night and day and it made a huge difference.”

“Hannah is very personable, very professional and very proactive. Using business parlance, Hannah adds real value to my efforts to learn a new language.”
