General Questions
FAQ
How does it work to learn Spanish with you?
Check out this helpful page that explains exactly how online classes with me work.
Do you teach Spanish grammar only?
I do teach Spanish grammar, but every class has a conversational component. I also offer 30-minute Spanish conversation sessions, which are less structured and more free flow chat, with the opportunity to ask questions and use a dictionary or translation app for help. I also offer group telenovela based conversation courses and adventure immersion trips.
How will we have online classes?
We will meet over the free videochat platform Zoom. You can use Zoom on almost any device and you’ll just need about 10 minutes to set it up prior to our first class. Check out this helpful page that explains exactly how online classes with me work.
Can I still work with you if I am bad with technology?
Yes, you can! I’ll be there to help you through any technology challenges you might face. You’ll get the hang of online classes before you know it.
How much do classes with you cost?
I have several payment options, including pay as you go and discounted bulk packages of online classes. You can view them all here.
Do you offer any free Spanish learning resources?
Yes I do! I offer free conversation workshops, YouTube videos, blog posts, and more. Sign up for my newsletter to stay in the loop with all the Spanish learning freebies!
Do you have any promotions or sales?
I periodically offer sales and special promotions. Sign up for my newsletter to be the first to find out!
Do you offer exam prep services?
No, I do not offer exam prep services for proficiency testing. Instead, I focus on buiding real world conversations skills.
How do I Find Out My Spanish Level?
You can take a free test to see whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced Spanish learner here.
Do you teach Latin American Spanish or Spanish from Spain?
I teach Latin American Spanish, as it is what is most commonly used in the USA. However, I have lived in Spain and am happy to teach Castillian Spanish upon request.
Are you fluent in Spanish?
Yes, I am fluent in Spanish. I’ve been studying Spanish since I was 12 years old and have traveled to and lived in several Spanish speaking countries.
How did you become fluent in Spanish?
After studying Spanish in school, I began tutoring and volunteering as a translator and interpreter in my local community. In college, I majored in Spanish and studied abroad in Spain. I’ve immersed myself in the language through music, telenovelas, travel, and more. I use Spanish as often as possible and continue to improve my abilities through immersion and consuming media in Spanish, as well as keeping in touch with Spanish speaking friends.
How long does it take to become fluent in Spanish?
Depending on where you get your information, they say that becoming fluent in a language takes somewhere around 500 hours, give or take. So the more time you put in on a regular basis, the quicker you will reach fluency. However, in my opinion, even more important than fluency is the ability to have a conversation with a native speaker (mistakes and all). Communication, not fluency, is the key.
Am I too old to learn Spanish?
No, you are not too old to learn Spanish. If you are willing to put in the work, you can learn a language at any age. The majority of my students are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.
Do you work with people who know 0 words of Spanish?
Yes, I do. Most of my students are beginners and intermediate level, and quite a few know less than 20 words in Spanish when we start working together. Don’t worry, I’ll provide a patient and supportive environment and I promise not to laugh at you.
I am embarrassed about my Spanish skills and I am feeling anxious and stressed to start classes or have a conversation. Should I wait to start classes until I have a higher level?
The perfect time to buckle down on your Spanish learning is right now! Seriously! If you already spoke Spanish perfectly, you wouldn’t need classes or me. That’s what I am here for, to help you build up your confidence and conversational abilities. I promise to provide a supportive and encouraging learning environment, free from judgement.
What are you like as a teacher?
I am friendly, positive, encouraging and judgement free. I think you will quite enjoy learning Spanish together. See what other students have said about working with me.
Do purchased classes have an expiration date?
Yes, they do. Individual classes are valid to be scheduled within 30 days of purchase. Packages are valid to be scheduled within double the length of time. For example, a 12-hour package is valid for 24 weeks (6 months), a 24-hour package is valid for 48 weeks (1 year), and a 48-hour package is valid for 96 weeks (2 years) from purchase date. However, if you are still actively working with me and simply are not able to use all of your purchased sessions before the expiry date, I’m happy to extend the expiry date as needed.
